Say Hello to Chicago’s Fashion Photographer Wendy Alas
April 5, 2011
Wendy Alas is a Chicago based event & fashion photographer. She specializes in documentary style wedding photography, fashion inspired portraiture, and fine art. Originally from Guatemala, Wendy moved to Chicago 14 years ago, thus exposing her to adapt to a completely different culture and language; Wendy is now quite fluent in both English and Spanish. She’s also lived in California for three years but in 2005 she decided to move back to the “Windy City” after college.
When I first saw Wendy’s work, I knew she had an eye for something different, that she had her own style. One of the first things that I noticed was her ability to take awesome self-portraits. So awesome in fact that she had her own show at The Coop in December of 2010 called In-Between Days. It was a collection of self-portraits, captured for the past several years in her free time as a personal project. Her love for self-portraits allows her to portray herself in all forms, negative and positive, and that’s what makes them so on the edge and pushing boundaries.
For Wendy, Chicago is a major city with so much diversity and culture that she doesn’t see herself living anywhere else, every so often she is encountered with amazing music, art, locations and most importantly interesting and inspiring individuals.
“Chicago is the urban, modern and growing heart of the Midwest – if you’re a photographer, musician, architect – Chicago is where one needs to be to grow, be inspired and succeed.”
We here at The UnScene Chicago agree with you Wendy.
